We know that unexpected and sudden moves can happen; Longacre’s excellent pastoral team will scoop your children up so that their transition to Longacre is as smooth and happy as possible, as well as connect you with Longacre families in advance of joining the school so the children will have a chance to meet their new classmates and peers. We are here to support you and your children through the period of change, as well as throughout your time at Longacre.
Contact Justine Yeats, our Registrar, on 01483 893 225 or at admissions@longacreschool.co.uk to arrange a suitable day and time.
At the point of joining Longacre, our Deputy Head (Academic) will assess the children’s academic progress through their classwork to establish appropriate levels of challenge for each child. Academic progress is closely monitored and regularly tested throughout the years at Longacre so that the children’s learning can be tailored, extended and supported; enabling each child to fulfil their potential.
From the children’s first day, they are linked up with a buddy in their class whom they spend lesson-time and breaktimes with, something our current children are always excited to be a part of. This buddy will be in their Form class to ensure that no child is ever left feeling lonely at Longacre. If your son / daughter hasn’t been able to join us ahead of their first day, we will connect you with current Longacre families before your child’s first day so the children will get a chance to meet their new class mates and peers.
Our admissions team will also check in with Form tutors throughout a child’s first day to ensure that the first day is going well and are happy to regularly feedback to parents.
About Longacre
Longacre is a co-educational independent day school and nursery for children aged 2 to 11, located in the glorious Surrey Hills on the outskirts of Shamley Green. Here, children have woods to explore, time to enjoy the fresh air, and encouragement to get muddy.
Offering an extensive programme of inspiring academics, as well as sports, art and DT, and Forest School, to name a few; all of our children have the chance to shine. They can discover their gifts and convert these into real talent, as well as learning how to deal with challenges. All our children have opportunities to compete, perform and be valued for who they are. Everyone is someone at Longacre.
The Independent School’s Inspectorate visited in summer 2022, and they certainly agreed – finding the school to be excellent (the highest rating) in both pupils’ achievement and personal development. They observed that ‘Pupils gain confidence and experience in a very wide range of clubs’, and ‘demonstrate excellent levels of self-knowledge and self-assurance and feel valued as individuals’.
We put exploration, fulfilment and the delights of childhood at the heart of everything we do, because we believe passionately that these characteristics form the vital foundations for motivated, confident and aspirational learners. We are an independent school in every sense. We are not tied to any senior school and in large part our success is down to understanding our children, and knowledge of the wide choice of destination schools.
We are proud of the diverse destinations to which Longacre pupils advance, with year groups of around 36 children progressing to in excess of 15 different senior schools. We take care to get to know our pupils as they go through the years here, and then work with parents to find the ideal match for the next step. Recent destinations include Bedales, Cranleigh Prep, Duke of Kent, Guildford High, King Edward’s Witley, Prior’s Field, Reigate Grammar, RGS Guildford, Seaford College and Tormead.
As well as offering before and after-school care for all who attend the school (Nursery – Form VI), children are encouraged to take part in a range of activities that cover both creative and sporting elements. Clubs and activities are run by both members of staff and external club providers with expertise in particular fields. We offer early morning clubs, lunchtime clubs and after school clubs, with provision running daily from 7.30am-6pm.
Transport to and from Longacre
The school runs a daily morning and afternoon minibus service. There are at present three daily morning bus routes covering Guildford, Godalming, Cranleigh and the surrounding villages and two daily afternoon bus routes currently covering the Guildford and Godalming areas.
The service is available to children from Reception to Form VI, and bus routes and pick up times are subject to change according to demand.
We listen to parental requests for additional routes and stops and we are currently testing an additional bus route that would cover Silent Pool, Gomshall, Abinger, Holmbury St Mary, Forest Green, and Ewhurst.
